Celebrating Tara Lee’s Voice!

Tara Lee, a bright Grade 4 learner at Jan Kriel School, is profoundly deaf — without her cochlear implant, she hears absolutely nothing.

We are incredibly proud to share that she was selected by her previous school, Carel du Toit, to recite a poem at the Power of Speech event held at the Western Cape Provincial Parliament on 24 April 2025.

This inspiring event raises awareness that Deaf children can learn to speak and thrive — especially when hearing loss is detected early. It’s a powerful reminder of the importance of Early Hearing Detection and Intervention (EHDI) in our province.
