It was a hot but successful day at Jan Kriel’s annual in-house athletics day. The competition was extremely close, on and off the field. At the end of the day ELIM was awarded the Spirit Cup and WELTEVREDE won the Athletics Trophy, both clinching victory by narrow margins. Well done to all athletes! Our Learner Council recently attended an exciting and meaningful camp where learners had the opportunity to grow as leaders, build teamwork skills, and strengthen friendships. From fun activities and team-building exercises to important discussions about leadership and responsibility, the camp was a great success. In honor of Karel Kriel, the oldest living descendant of Jan Kriel’s family, the family provides an annual scholarship to one Jan Kriel matric learner for further studies.  This year, the Karel Kriel Scholarship was awarded to Matthew Sadoucas. While celebrating with the matriculants of 2025 and their good results, Jan Kriel also welcomes 37 new learners. Grade 10 learners from Astra and Paarl Schools (both of which only offer up to Grade 9) and hearing-impaired learners from Carel du Toit School (which only offers up to Grade 3) find a place at Jan Kriel annually. In December, our Foundation Phase learners visited Huis De Kuilen Retirement Home. Our children sang Christmas carols for the grandmothers and grandfathers with pride and great excitement.
